Fans of the iconic Castlevania series can rejoice as Konami has released a major expansion concluding the story for the mobile entry Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls. Exclusive to Apple Arcade, Grimoire of Souls is an original entry in the series that brings together multiple characters from its history to battle together against a dire threat.
Arguably one of Konami’s standout hits from a pantheon of heavy hitters starring the Metal Gear and Yu-Gi-Oh franchises, Castlevania is one of the biggest names in gaming. Whether it was from playing hits such as Symphony of the Night, or something more recent as watching the acclaimed Castlevania series on Netflix, everyone has heard of the series in one form or another.
Grimoire of Souls capitalizes on this success by taking fan service and shoving it in gamers’ faces, bringing together several iconic characters to battle their way through over 60 levels in the classic 2D action style that the series was famous for. Taking control of Alucard, Simon Belmont, Charlotte, Shanoa and Maria, players will have to master their differing styles to beat all manner of beastly baddies.
This latest patch closes off the main storyline of the grimoires, as well as adding new features, Alter Art characters and fan favourite bosses to face. Soma Cruz and fan favourite Trevor Belmont make their appearances as the new Alter Art entries, which are skills that grant players temporary control of the characters until their health depletes.
The new features consist of a weapon equipment system that deploys equipment to dispatch units and receive even more rewards for strengthening weapons, as well as adding the ability to disassemble surplus souls to convert them into other items. Alongside this is the introduction of a New Game + mode that allows players to start the story again with a few elements carrying over after the completion of the game, so this is an ideal time for old and new players to get involved to experience the full story of the Grimoires.
Castlevania Grimoire of Souls is available exclusively as part of the Apple Arcade, costing a monthly subscription of $4.99.
